About ME.

As a Visual Arts & Photomedia artist and educator, I am interested in hands-on learning and marvel at the insight artists gain about themselves when working and playing throughout the creative process. Like the journey of life itself, every artwork, every image, every project, reveals the self as a work-in-progress!

Much of my work visually explores notions of place, identity and memory in relation to specific places and subjects I have photographed over time. For the 35 years I have been photographing, my work has shifted from analogue darkroom based imagery to digital practice. Manipulation of the image has always excited me, no matter what medium. The push and pull of watercolour, photographic and drawing technology invites creative expression and enables the visual language of the artist/photographer.

The following article, written by Ellin Williams from the University of Wollongong, documents a discussion between myself and my greatest mentor, artist, archaeologist, and friend, Professor Diana Wood Conroy, from the University of Wollongong. Diana articulates the nature of my artistic practice, its relationship to my love of photography, my fascination with place, and exploration of site: Diane and Diana by Ellin Williams 2010.
